Who I AM

About

toby

I've spent most of my career as an entrepreneur in the technology industry.

My defining professional experience to date was serving as the Co-Founder and CEO of Kapost. Kapost was the leading provider of content marketing software for large B2B marketing teams. I led the company from founding to winning customers such as Salesforce, Adobe, IBM, HP, Dell, Microsoft, GE, FedEx, McKinsey and Allstate, to over 100 employees, and to over $17M in revenue . We raised $19M in funding along the way and were able to sell the business after 10 years for $52M to Upland (NASDAQ: UPLD). Afterwards I stayed on at Upland as the GM of a >$50M revenue business unit across 3 product lines.

Kapost was a really challenging experience for me. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way through failure. The challenge was as much personal and psychological as it was professional.

Prior to Kapost I founded, grew, and sold another Internet company, Qloud. My first job after college was on a flower farm in Ecuador, which I then spun into a flower import business. Since selling Kapost I've spent most of my time supporting founders in startups, trying to share what I had to learn the hard way. I do so through my own advisory & consulting and through part-time work at Venture Partners at the University of Colorado Boulder.

I live in Boulder, CO with my wife Kita where we raised our three daughters and where we spend lots of time in the outdoors. While I'm grateful for the good fortune I've had professionally, my life's greatest accomplishments will always be my marriage and my children.
